I had popcorn today too. I use my $6 in the box air popper from the thrift store that's 5 years old. I drizzle on olive oil, salt, and Kroger's generic Ms Dash. YUM!

Your garden is looking great! Try not to use 7 dust for this reason:

When you plant a garden, you're providing this exciting new food source. First off, you'll get lots of bugs interested in it, because it's never been there before. Only after these bugs come and get situated do the spiders, lace wing wasps, lady bugs, praying mantis, dragon flies, lizards, frogs, etc who EAT the bad bugs actually come and take care of them. Most first year gardens are sad. Don't poison your buddies trying to change the way nature works. :-)

The best thing you can do to make your first garden less sad is to improve the soil. Add lots of compost, healthy organic fertilizers that contain natural nitrogen, potassium, phosphorus and other minerals. Buy some concentrated seaweed emulsion and dilute it and spray it on. If your plants have proper nutrition they'll be able to ward off the bad guys better. But, don't expect too much. Rome (or the Garden of Eden, rather) wasn't built in a day.

Ruthie,
Yeah, I haven't been able to bring myself to 7dust and so far everything is hanging in there so it's a last resort type of thing.

My HOA doesn't allow us to have a compost bin (or a clothes line but that doesn't stop me) so I improvise by throwing all peels and such directly on the soil. When I was turning the soil it was filled with earthworms. I think I'm headed in the right direction.
Even if we don't get much food out of my little patch I'm enjoying my little hobby garden.
