I found out yesterday afternoon that an appraiser for our mortgage refinance will be here tomorrow- to take pictures of every room in our house including the basement and the garage.
Pardon me while I stress out a little bit.
But, after I'm done it will be worth it and it will be like a nice Christmas gift for myself- at least for a day until the kids are done with it.
One and a half rooms down... many more to go. I love the smell of windex in the afternoon.

Jenny, my husband is an appraiser, and his clients panic about cleanliness all the time. Rest assured that it doesn't affect how the appraiser values your home.
Of course, if you don't want it to look messy in the pictures because, really, who would, then by all means, clean away!

If you don't mind asking your husband because I'm very curious-- what rooms seems to be the messiest? I think mine is the basement because we just put things down there to deal with later and then definitely my bedroom for the same reason.
