Our oldest cat, Chloe, is dying. She is 15 years old. I've had her since she was 6 weeks old. She is not in any discernible pain but she isn't eating and her lips and nose are turning black. She is very weak. It's been happening slowly for a few months. At first she just stopped sleeping with my daughter who she slept with every night like clockwork.
After having a hard time dealing with our vet concerning our cat Izzy, I have not wanted to deal with taking her in. Hubby is especially torn up about it since he's her cat. They have a weird bond.
I don't know what to do.

I'm so sorry .... we lost our Chloe Cat in February and I just haven't been able to bring myself to talk about it or write about it ... She was my first "baby" - so I know how you feel :-( I'm very sorry.

I had to put down my 17 year old cat Poo Bear last year, it was difficult, but less so because I had seen it done so many times at the clinic where I worked.
Remember, euthanasia is an act of compassion. The final, most compassionate act you can do.
Make yourself a two week calendar of good days and bad days for a visual guide. How many days is Chloe cuddly and sweet and how many days is she hiding, or not moving and uncomfortable?
Think about Chloe as a younger cat and what made her happiest. How many of those things still make her happy?
With modern medical technology and nutrition, we can keep animals alive a lot longer than we used to be able to, but this means, in general, that we need to decide when they've stopped really enjoying life.
Talk to your spouse and kids about it. It's a huge decision and one that can't be taken lightly.
